Lower Cost Drug source

Post by snoringdog »

On the way home from work today, I heard a Public Radio program called "How I Built This", where they were interviewing Mark Cuban about a new company he's been working on that cuts out the middlemen in drug distribution.

I was a little surprised to hear him speak. He sounds a lot more grounded and public-spirited than I assumed (only having seen snippets of Shark Tank which isn't really my thing).

A few years ago he was approached by a radiologist who wanted to try to reduce the obscene cost of a lot of drugs in the US. (This was around the time that Martin Shkreli "...jacked up the price of life-saving AIDS drug Daraprim by 5,000 percent - from $13.50 to $750"). He describes the reason for starting the company, and all the legwork and homework that was necessary to get approvals and business relationships. The goal is "cost plus 15 percent".

Their catalog is small but growing.

I haven't had the need for anything really expensive myself at this point, but it's good to know that not everyone is a rapacious profiteer in the industry...

(And I have absolutely no connection with any of this in any way. Just passing it along).
