I can relate to Aaron's depressive state upon leaving the Mormons.

Joined a Christian fundamentalist group myself at 18 and it was great for awhile, probably was a temporary answer to my depression. After a few years though, disillusionment set in. And where do you go after you've been to the pinnacle so to speak, having "seen the truth"? I remember waking up many days and feeling good for about five seconds and then a crushing anxiety would set in..

Currently reading a short book called "A Hell of Mercy - A Meditation on Depression and the Dark Night of the Soul" by Tim Farrington. Interesting look at another person's struggle with the onset of depression as a teen. He dropped out from his "pre-ordained" middle-class life-trajectory to join an ashram.
Good writer. I feel like a kindred spirit somehow.

Wishing everyone can find peace...
